GGD700x90

sadchildsmBeing “overweight” as a child can have negative effects on your self esteem.  Often times plus size children are berated, rejected, & abused simply because of their size.  If not properly addressed at a young age, this hurt and pain can cause deep emotional scars.

Growing into plus size men and women, those emotional scars have often grown with them due to the discrimination they’ve experienced throughout their lives.  Whether the size discrimination comes via images seen in media, entertainment, advertising, or via employment and personal relationships, it feeds into their hurt and pain.  Although as adults they may learn to “cover” those emotional scars with fancy clothes, makeup, and even a smile, deep down inside the scars remain unhealed.  If those emotional scars are left unaddressed, they can come to the surface through their  negative interactions causing outbursts of anger, aggressive behaviour, emotional reactions, avoidance, and lack of confidence.  Unfortunately, this behavior could result in withdrawal from relationships, avoidance/denial of thoughts and feelings, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts or other self-destructive tendencies.

With an emphasis on building confidence, encouraging dreams, and helping to heal, PLUS Positive (PLUS+)  is on a mission to empower plus size men and women personally and professionally, advocate for size diversity in arts and entertainment, and encourage volunteerism to impact our local communities.

Let’s all give back on November 13, 2014 – Georgia Gives Day!
