Team Spirit: Your Fave NFL Sports Team in Plus Size Fashions by Lane Bryant

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

Because we love sports too.

Did you know that there are fashionable tees and tanks in plus size fashion of our fave NFL teams? YES honey, Lane Bryant is hooking it up! Your fave NFL Sports Team in Plus Size options? YES!

Growing up, in my house I could not really cheer for anyone except the Cowboys. My mother was NOT having it. One year, I tried my hand at cheering for the Dolphins, even saved my money to by myself a starter jacket… I lost it somehow. My mother was not too hot on me rocking that team (I liked the colors though) BUT the Cowboys? My mom is a diehard fan. She rides with them in their lows and in their high moments… Dare not come up in her house dismissing them (I KNOW)

LOL, but many times, or maybe it was just me, in order to find your fave team’s apparel you had to go to the men’s section to find something to rock or that would fit the way you wanted too. No disrespect, but a spaghetti strap tank or tube top or booty shorts are not necessarily my idea of repping for my team. (I was a cheerleader in college and had more support and options for my team’s gear than the NFL do) So, I thought it was really cool when I found out that Lane Bryant has a WHOLE SELECTION OF NFL Sportswear!

Team Spirit: Your Fave NFL Sports Team in Plus Size Fashions by Lane Bryant

You can shop them NOW at LaneBryant.com!

Not just basic tees either. You have sweatshirts, pajama pants, sleep shirts, tank tops, and v-neck tees! There are a variety of options and for that die hard team lover, you can dress her up OR you can go ham in your team’s fave! Like, I know that Kristen Turner loves her Saints… I may have to share with her this page… lol

What do you think? Something you can get behind? Do you have a fave team? I want to hear your story for shopping for NFL sports team clothing…

Lady Loves- The Colorful Plus Skirt and Crop Top

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)
plus size crop tops. I’m not one to want to show off my mid-section  but, there was a piece of me that thought maybe my super-short torso could carry off a little bit of a crop? When I saw this classic, ballet-inspired plus size crop top pop up at Eloquii I knew I had to have it. And yes, I paid full price for it!!

Asos and Eloquii are two brands I really keep an eye on these days. Asos is a constant source of well-priced current clothes that allow you to play with trends in an accessible way. Eloquii speaks to me. No really. I love so much of what they are doing now.

I’m not a very adventurous or fussy fashionista. I don’t even consider myself a fashionista. More so, a regular gal who likes clothes.  I like my outfits simple and minimalist. It felt like a natural fit to pair this basic top with a bright skirt and take it for a whirl!

Fit Notes: As always, Asos Curve house brand runs a bit large. The Eloquii top is true to size and a real crop- not a skimmer.

Paired With: Yet again keeping it very simple here. A single, long necklace, black ankle strap shoes and a wrapped leather bracelet which adds a tiny bit of edge. Just a tiny bit.

Plus Size Crop Tee (similar - there is also a striped version available online)
Asos Curve Pleated Midi Skirt (similar- same style, alternative color)

Meet My Sexy Ass Band

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

The BAND! My band is the absolute best. My whole team is the absolute best.
But I don’t think you know for real real how incredible my band is. They are ridiculously talented, kind, and a complete riot to hang out with. It should be noted that they are also total babes, and should totally do a Macy’s Christmas commercial or something.

EEEEEEE

EEEEEEE

CUTIE PATOOTIES

CUTIE PATOOTIES

I’ll be touring for the bulk of this year. SO MANY SHOWS MY GOD SO MANY SHOWS.
And you’ll see these virtuoso musicians/friends/soulmates with me along the way. Buy them beer. And buy me a hot dog. And a whiskey. And a puppy.

This is Heather.

SHE SINGS AND PLAYS BECAUSE SHE IS A GODDESS

AHHHH HEATHER STAHP YOU’RE THE COOLEST

When I grow up, I want to be Heather Thomas. She is a fucking beast of a drummer. She’s the newest of the team, but it feels like she’s been with the crew forever. We’ve been playing shows together for about 6 months, and she is one of the funnest people to hang out with, play music with, and talk serious shit with. On tour, we call her Lone Wolf Thomas. You can too. I’ve learned so much from Heather in such a short amount of time. She is one of those people that puts things in such a wise perspective that you’re like “UGH Heather, why do you have to make me think about compassion and empathy for other people, I just wanted to run them over with my car for laughing and walking slow,” but then you’re also super grateful because she for real for real shifted your consciousness with one sentence. I can’t wait to spend more time playing music with her and learning more lessons about humanity. Heather is also a skateboarder, lead singer of her own band, hackey sack enthusiast, and former tap dancer (SHE DID A SET ONCE WHERE SHE PLAYED THE KIT AND THEN TAP DANCED BECAUSE SHE CAN DO ANYTHING BECAUSE SHE IS A GODDESS AMEN). Heather is an institution, and I can’t wait for her to take over the world.

This is Maiah.

Oh did I mention Maiah is also a professional model as well?

TALENT AND BRIANS AND HILARITY AND SHE IS ALSO A MODEL DID I SAY ‘BRIANS’ THAT IS ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT

Maiah Manser and I met in college at Cornish College of the Arts. I was instantly blown away by her songwriting and her unbelievable vocals. She is one of the kindest, most talented human beings that has ever come into my life, and she is a rare treasure to anyone that knows her. Maiah never ceases to amaze me with her insane vocals and emotional connection to her writing and voice. Maiah inspires me to be a better musician and human being. One of my favorite videos of all time is her owning the shit out of her loop system. On top of being a master of her craft, Maiah can multi-task like no other. I asked her to sing back-up. Then I asked her to play synth. Then I asked her to play bass. Then I asked her to do them all at the same time. And she nails it every fucking time. On tour, Maiah’s nickname is (sorry Maiah) Wormhole. This is due to her third eye actual psychic abilities. You may not call her that. She is one of my favorite people to tell secrets to and I feel like we’ve been friends for millions of years in so many lives. Maiah just released her first single, “Hold Your Head Up” which completely slays. She has a show (with TIM) on Sept 6th in Seattle and if you live in Seattle and don’t go, you better be having a colonoscopy or getting married or something terribly important/awful.

This is Tim.

TIM I'M GOING TO PINCH YOUR CHEEKS ALL THE TIME

TIM I’M GOING TO PINCH YOUR CHEEKS ALL THE TIME

Tim is my very best friend. We met working at a restaurant in Seattle where I farted on him and we crushed on cute girls together and got drunk and cried way too often.
Tim plays every instrument you can think of. And not just half-assed. He is one of the most brilliant guitarists/bassists I’ve ever met; a true master of his craft. I sent Tim the new album (which I wrote without the band in Los Angeles) two weeks ago, and said, “Hey can you learn all of these songs in two days/program all the sounds/help design playing to track/teach me how to play them/play three instruments at once? IS THAT COOL TIM?” And Tim said, “fuck yes I will, Mary, because I’m a damn boss.” AND HE DID. Like the rest of the band, Tim’s solo writing is phenomenal. The sounds he makes with his guitar literally move me to tears.
Tim’s nickname varies. The rest of the band calls Tim, “TimTitty” I have a hard time getting those words out of my mouth, so often I just call him “Asshole” because every day is opposite day. You may not call him either of those names, though he would insist you can call him whatever you like and then give you a hug and ask you what your birthday is. He is the brooding lead singer of his band, Dark Hip Falls, a band that has been the movie music for my 5-margarita-kind-of-nights. The Summer I turned 19, Tim came to my apartment and stayed with me through the night when I wanted to kill myself. Now we get to play music together all the time. And I still fart on him.

Can’t wait for you guys to meet the rest of the crew! See you on the road!

xoxo
M

We’re having so much fun over here featuring these amazingly diverse plus-size fashion bloggers from all over the world.  We spent a lot of time meeting up with some petite plus bloggers, and today, we’re excited to showcase a tall plus blogger.

Essie of Golden Kaleidoscope offers up sexy body-hugging dresses in vibrant prints and cool laid-back street chic.  Her style is amazing, but what’s even more inspiring about Essie is how she inspires others.  Her posts are full of confidence-boosting advice and honest stories of her own path to confidence.

Essie is a plus-size fashion blogger YOU NEED TO KNOW!!

Height: 5’8.5″
Age: 28
City: Brooklyn, NY

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Essie of Golden Kaleidoscope

What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
I would post regular everyday outfits on my Instagram and people were always asking me where I got things or asking me for confidence advice. After a major push from my friend Shaina Harrison from the blog, Cornerrich.com I decided to give it a try. I’ve been blogging for a little over a year now.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being tall and plus-size?
Jeans. I can’t find a good pair of jeans to save my life.  I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair of jeans.

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Essie of Golden Kaleidoscope What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
My favorite thing about being plus size is breaking the stereotype that plus size women can’t be fashionable, sexy or on trend just like straight sized women. We’re a force to be reckoned with.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
I love being able to share my fashion opinions, spreading body positivity to women, as well as be a positive voice within the plus size community.

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Essie of Golden Kaleidoscope Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I love indie  designers like Married to the Mob, Gifted Apparel, Rue 107, Cupcake Mafia, Served Fresh and Carnivore Creates. Who doesn’t love ASOS, Simply Be, Forever 21, and Boohoo? I recently fell in love with 17 Sundays and the bold pieces from Carmakova.

Describe your personal style.
Street sweet. I love my bodycons and super feminine,  curve hugging pieces. I also love a graphic t shirt, jeans and cute flats.

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Essie of Golden KaleidoscopeAny bloggers currently on your radar?
Too many to name. Everyone is doing such a great job at showcasing plus size fashion. I will say I adore Kelly Augustine, Nadia Aboulhosn, Amarachi Ukachu, Claudia from Curvy Claudia, Chasity Garner from Garner Style, Chante Burkett from Everything Curvy and Chic, Ashley Rose, and Rochelle Johnson from BeautiCurve. All of these women push the limits of plus size fashion in one way or another.

Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Be brave, be bold, and do whatever you heart desires.

Hope you enjoyed meeting Essie! Any plus-size bloggers you want to see featured?  Let us know below!

What is a cattle call?

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

Cattle calls is a mass audition in which a large number of models try out. These castings are filled with models of all sizes, ethnicity, background and experience. This is one of the hardest to book.

Wait times are long and space is limited inside the audition location. Here are some tips to survive a cattle call.

1. Travel lite. Bring ONLY the essentials. But don't forget to pack a small makeup bag to touchup as you approach the front of the line. No matter how long you've been waiting you should look fresh once you approach the front. See post What's in your model bag?

2. Be alert. Usually announcements are done and you might miss something if you too focus on chatting with your friends on line. Remember this is a job interview so leave the "hanging out" until after the audition.

3. Think of packing a pair of flats. It's never cool to stand in heels for a long time. Your feet should be relaxed before your audition.

4. Consider bringing a light snack and a bottle of water. Maybe some nuts or dry fruits. Wait time can exceed over an hours and if you are anything like me I have a hard time doing anything when I am hungry.

5. Get to know the person in front and behind you incase you need a bathroom break.

6. Don't feed into negative thoughts or conversations online or in the waiting room. If you hear it, ignore it or walk away if possible. Worst thing before an audition is a negative or defeated spirit. Sample of negative conversation that I have heard in the past are
  • They already have their favorites.
  • They want tall girls.
  • They want bigger/smaller girls.
Get an invisible ear plug and drain all that BS. Give it your best and God will do the rest. See post Shut the hell up!!!!

7. Once you are approaching the front of the line take out your portfolio book and comp card and put on your heels so you will have the essential ready to be seen by the casting team (unless otherwise noted).

8. Although many casting directors allow regular snap shots I assure you that a comp card is preferred and will set you apart from the amateurs. Be prepared and invest in your craft. See post Photoshoot Time!

9. Be patient and wait for their decision...never ever contact them. This can take sometime or be very quickly. Regardless of the outcome please note that modeling involves more NOs then YESs.

And on to the next one we go. - Đăng lại bởi plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com -

My Thoughts On Non-Paid Gigs

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

As a freelance model you are responsible for declining and accepting assignments. When I first started I worked many gigs for free or low rates because I feel some experiences are priceless. As a new model you will see improvement after every shoot and fashion show so I recommend accepting some low/no budget opportunities to master your craft. In addition, after time you will learn to negotiate a rate which I will discuss on a future post.

Print Assignments:
Here are some things to consider before accepting non-paid print assignments. Is this gig going to provide quality pictures? There is no worst feeling then seeing a crappy picture of you ALL over the Internet and to add to your misery you didn't even get paid for this awful gig. When they tell you it's a non paid assignment you should ask who will be doing hair and makeup and who will be taking the pictures. Then use Google to check on their work and the brand. Let common sense and your gut feeling lead you to the decision. I strongly suggest waiting at least 24 hours to let it soak in before your make a decision. You might be new but pictures last FOREVER so be very careful. If you don't feel good about it...politely decline and tell them to consider you for the next one (they might step up their game).

Fashion Shows:
I love fashion shows. My career started at shows. Every fashion show allows you an opportunity to meet at least 4 or more new designers and the audience is full of bloggers and industry experts which help increase your exposure in the industry. The best way to maximize your non paid fashion show gig is to remove the "fun times" backstage and instead use it to network. Every designer, hair and makeup artist backstage should have your comp card or business card and you should have there info too. Be nice to everyone...including the models never know when you guys might cross paths again. The industry is smaller then you think and many times I been on set and the designer or production team might ask me "Do you have any model friend who is a size 14....". So again play nice with everyone backstage BUT remember to do your rounds do not stay around only the girls you know or be zoned out with a iPhone in a corner. Your goal at every non-paid fashion show is to secure some good leads on paid gigs in the near future.

I actually met Qristyl Frazier at a show over 7 years ago and I been her muse ever since. I thank that non-paid community center fashion show for getting me on Project Runway, Rip The Runway, FFFW and numerous TV segments for Qristyl Frazier Designs. I gave her my comp card the day of the show and sent her a follow-up thank you email the next day....the rest is history.

The question I always get is when should I start declining non-paid gigs? I believe this is a per-project basis and every situation is different. I personally no longer do non paid fashion shows because I been blessed to add some great shows to my resume and I feel I have perfected my personal walk. Now I network at fashion shows while sitting in the audience ;-). When it comes to other projects as you become more seasoned you will be able to compare new opportunities to the ones you have accomplished to see if this will help you work on a skill you want to practice on or fill an area in your resume/portfolio that your lacking. Maybe you need some swimsuit confidence or maybe you want to work on your commercial looks (big smiles). Never rule out non-paid assignments because if done correctly as a result you will get some awesome paid assignments.

Me & A Graphic Tee

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)Seems graphic-tee looks have been popping up everywhere lately.  Typically, I am not a fan of T-shirts as I find them to be unflattering on me, yet lately I've been sporting a lot of  relaxed looks and thought I give this sporty trend a try.
Faux Leather Peplum Jacket/Lane Bryant| T-shirt/Old Navy| Pants/Old| Peep Toe Booties/Just Fab (old)|  Purse/Thrifted|
Shades/Jessica Simpson| lippie/RiRiWoo MAC

To my surprise, I received lots of compliments on the shirt when I wore it to a happy hour meetup last weekend. It's styled with a faux leather peplum jacket, printed tuxedo-striped jogger like pants, and my favorite peep toe booties.

I am reconsidering my views, when it comes to a CLASSY graphic tee.  Thoughts?

Have a great weekend and til next time, Stay Fab!

Football and Fashion...

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

Look 1: T-shirt-Yellowhammer Creative, Shorts-DIY, Jacket-Talbots, FlipFlops-Havaianas, Look 2: T-Shirt-Yellowhammer Creative, Skirt-Elloqui, Shoes-Zara(old), Sunnies-Prada

There are very few things that make me as happy as football season! Here in Alabama football is more of a religious experience instead of a game. Rivalries are strong, feelings run deep and bragging rights are at stake year after year.  Representing your team during the season is extremely important tradition. Almost every store has jewelry, t-shirts, pants, sweatshirts, shoes and countless other items to help you represent your team!  I know so many people (including myself) who search the Internet for new and unique items to express their love for their team.

As an alumnus of the University of Alabama it’s extremely important for me to combine my two loves of fashion and football to express my school pride! Numerous looks appropriate for a variety of occasions are needed to get through an entire season of games and parties.  For this post I wanted to share two different looks that do exactly that, while keeping in line with my style.

For both looks I paired my favorite Alabama t-shirts from Yellowhammer Creative with very different pieces for different occasions. The first look is my go-to jean shorts with a crimson army jacket and Havaianas. Great for running errands, game watching or going to the game. It’s both comfortable and functional.  Appropriate for work as well as parties, the next look is a dressier. I paired my t-shirt with the red midi-skirt from Eloquii and comfy sandals from Zara.

With football season in full swing, I can’t wait to see what everyone wears! Sooo is anyone else a sports fanatic?

Cape Crusader

HTML email (plussizebabydolldress.blogspot.com)

Cape Blazer-Boohoo, Dress-Asos(Similar), Necklace-UAL, Sunnies-BCBG(old), Shoes- JustFabOnline

When I saw this cape blazer on Boohoo’s website I knew I had to have it! I could not pass go or collect $200 until I made this amazing piece of clothing mine. Especially when I saw it in electric pink!!! It did not disappoint when I received it! I love the color and the fit of this jacket. I felt insanely glamorous and chic when I slipped it over my arms and twirled around the house (I was taken back to the days of wearing Lodon Fog capes as a little girl).

I created at least four ways to style this cape and I know that I will test the limits of its versatility throughout the coming months!  This time around I paired it with a black bodycon dress from Asos and Kara Ross statement necklace that I scored in New Orleans.

On another note the cape blazer has just been on the since this spring and I have to say it’s refreshing to wear an item when it is style and not when it’s a few seasons old as the plus-size clothing market often does! Have you ever bought something that made you insanely happy? Do tell!

Have you shared a secret with my #MarySecrets campaign? Click here to anonymously share something with me AND someone else. You never know who you could inspire or affect by just one little truth. My wish is that the freeing effect occurs not only with the receiver, but also the writer.

I still have a few super cool limited-edition copies of Heart on My Sleeve that I’m signing just for you. Have you pre-ordered yours yet? Speaking of pre-order…. HEART ON MY SLEEVE OFFICIALLY GOES UP FOR PRESALE ON ITUNES TUESDAY!!!!! That means we’re getting closer to the album release. OMG I can’t wait for you guys to hear it. Seriously.

That is all.

xoxo,
M
